Manchester United are making a big effort to find David de Gea’s replacement and may pursue Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid, according to a report.
Dean Henderson, another goalkeeper, challenged De Gea to take Manchester United’s starting job two seasons ago, but De Gea prevailed. He played in 46 games across all competitions last season while largely maintaining his position.
Henderson, on the other hand, was limited to just four senior appearances. Additionally, none of these appeared in the Premier League.
Henderson is on loan at Nottingham Forest in an effort to restart his career. Manchester United therefore recruited Martin Dubravka from Newcastle for the campaign.
Should he perform well, the Red Devils have the option to acquire him permanently.
Due to Erik ten Hag’s satisfaction with using De Gea in goal, Dubvraka has yet to make his United debut. This might change when United plays Sheriff Tiraspol of Moldova on Thursday night.
Ten Hag will merely want to give Dubravka some game time to keep him happy, instead of dropping De Gea due to his performances.
De Gea’s Old Trafford contract, which he signed in September 2019, expires in the summer of 2023. An extension was purportedly in the works back in May.
