Following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan, Cristiano Ronaldo has been told by Rio Ferdinand that he has “no way back” at Old Trafford.
Ferdinand, former teammate of Ronaldo has reacted to the explosive interview the 37-year-old forward gave to broadcaster Morgan in which he berated the lack of advancement at United over the previous nine years. Ronaldo has “snookered” the club in his attempts to leave Old Trafford, according to Ferdinand, who also claimed that Ronaldo has “no way back” at the Theatre of Dreams.
Ferdinand’s comment
Ferdinand told Vibe with Five: “I’m quite clear with this situation. It’s over. That love affair with Manchester United is finished. The book has been closed, he’s snookered the club and put them into a position where there’s no way back. Whether anyone at the club wanted to keep Ronaldo, they can’t now after what he’s said.
“You can’t sit here and defend that from Cristiano Ronaldo because, deep down, and I know for a fact, this has all been manufactured for one thing and that’s for him to leave the club. I don’t feel like the club will take him back and I don’t think that he wants to come back, that’s a given, and I think this is all manufactured for that reason, that he wants to get out of this place.”
Ferdinand’s Man Utd Career
Ferdinand, a center-back hired by Sir Alex Ferguson a year before Ronaldo in 2002, played with the Portuguese player throughout his debut season at the club. So, for six seasons, the two shared a dressing room. During that time, United won three Premier League championships, an FA Cup, two League Cups, and the Champions League in 2008. Jamie Carragher, a fellow analyst who works with Ferdinand, has demanded that United fire Ronaldo.
Since last summer, it has been obvious that Ronaldo wants to leave Old Trafford. He seemed destined to move on, whether it be in January or later, after this interview and the many former players and experts who have spoken out against him. Only Ronaldo’s exorbitant pay and whether any of Europe’s elite teams will want him after his previous antics present obstacles.
