Tammy Abraham claims that the striker position at Chelsea can be a “lonely” one now that he and Romelu Lukaku have relocated to Serie A in search of their best play.
Abraham, a star for Roma, progressed through the ranks at Stamford Bridge and under Frank Lampard found his best form. But under Thomas Tuchel, the Englishman struggled to keep up that form after Lampard was fired.
He then moved to Rome in the summer of 2017 to work for former Blues manager Jose Mourinho.
Lukaku struggled in his first season back at Chelsea and left the club this summer. Since moving across Europe, both players have found their groove once more.
Abraham opened up to the Daily Mail about his conversation with Lukaku about the Chelsea striker role.
“I remember Lukaku saying at Inter Milan he is facing the goal more compared to Chelsea, when it is more back to the goal and linking up,” the 24-year-old said.
“It made me think back and compare it to my style of play now.
“The midfield and defenders are so vital for Chelsea, it is a lonely job up front and can be difficult.
“But I don’t think it’s true to say there is a curse of No9s, there will be different reasons for each striker, and it’s an honour to play for that club.”
