Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has turned down a number of managerial positions in recent months, including one in the Premier League, according to Norwegian media.
The 49-year-old, who took over at Old Trafford in December 2018 after Jose Mourinho was fired, was stripped of his responsibilities in November following the club’s disastrous 4-1 loss to Watford.
He was later replaced by Ralf Rangnick, who has had little success in turning around the club’s fortunes since Solskjaer’s departure.
Solskjaer has had a quiet few months. He still stays in Manchester to support his daughter, Karna, who plays for Manchester United’s women’s team.
However, following a brief hiatus from football, the former Cardiff City and Molde manager is now open to returning to management this summer, according to Norwegian publication VG.
According to the article, he has been approached on many occasions by ‘several’ different teams, including a Premier League club, about a comeback.
Everton, Leeds, Watford, and Burnley are the only top-flight teams that have fired managers since his departure from Old Trafford last year.
Since Sean Dyche’s resignation last month, he has been connected with the Burnley position and is presently a 33/1 outsider with Bet Victor to be awarded the job at Turf Moor.
In an immensely touching and emotional talk with United’s official channel, Solskjaer, who was in command at Manchester United for three years before his dismissal, delivered a moving message to everyone affiliated with the club.
He broke down in tears while talking about first-team coach Michael Carrick, and he opened up about a conversation he had with United’s squad at the club’s Carrington training camp.
“I’m so honoured and privileged to have been trusted to take the club forward, and I really hope that I leave it in a better state than when I came,” he said.
“I’ve made great friends, I’ve reconnected with some great friends, new staff coming in I’ve become really good friends with. The other staff that was here when I was there, we’re good friends and we have connected and that’s what it’s about at a club like this. With the fans, the fans have been amazing.
“From day one at Cardiff until the last one now. [They’ve been] top, and we’ll see each other again.”
