Cristiano Ronaldo is now the first player in World Cup history to score at five different tournaments.
The 37-year-old extended his lead as the leading scorer in men’s international football history on Thursday by thundering home a penalty kick that he himself won as Portugal faced Ghana.
Ronaldo now holds the distinction of being the first player to score in five different World Cup competitions, as if he needed another record.
Along with Pele, Uwe Seeler, Miroslav Klose, and longtime rival Lionel Messi—who earlier this week joined the group when he scored for Argentina against Saudi Arabia—Ronaldo was one of five players to have scored at four.
However, Ronaldo now holds the only record in existence after scoring at each World Cup since 2006.
His first World Cup goal came against Iran in 2006, and his second came four years later against North Korea.
Before the Portugal international went goal-crazy in 2018, Ghana was the recipient of a goal from Ronaldo in 2014.
He scored a spectacular hat-trick against Spain before adding another goal against Morocco, and in 2022, he will continue to score goals.
