The Red Devils and Barcelona have had productive discussions regarding a deal for Frenkie de Jong.
Erik ten Hag, the manager of United, made De Jong, with whom he had previously worked at Ajax, his top target this transfer window.
Following the departures of Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic, and Jesse Lingard, Manchester United is in dire need of midfielders.
Ten Hag is eager to reunite with De Jong, 25, at the Theatre of Dreams, and it seemed like United was going to miss out on the midfielder as they struggled to reach an agreement with Barcelona.
Sport, however, now claims that a deal between the Red Devils and the La Liga giants, estimated to be worth £68 million, is “very close” to being finalized.
It is rumored that United will sign De Jong by the end of the following week.
