Sasa Kalajdzic, a new Wolves signing, will likely be out for a while after straining his anterior cruciate ligament against Southampton on Saturday.
On his debut, the Austrian striker left the game at halftime due to knee pain. Goncalo Guedes took his place, and Wolves went on to win their first Premier League game of the year thanks to a goal from Daniel Podence in the 46th minute.
Kalajdzic, who was signed from Stuttgart last week, will likely be sidelined for the majority of a year due to an ACL injury.
A statement from Wolves’ medical team reads: “Sasa felt a pain in his knee late in the first half against Southampton. Unfortunately, scans reveal an anterior cruciate injury and he will see a knee specialist tomorrow. We now need to support Sasa in his recovery and further updates will follow.”
Kalajdzic had an even better 2020–21 season, scoring 16 goals in Germany’s top division in addition to his six Bundesliga goals the previous year.
Additionally, Wolves disclosed that they are carefully observing the Mexican’s workload after an injury cut short his preseason.
They add: “Raul’s pre-season was interrupted by a knee injury which means that he is still building his resilience and his ability to recover quickly during periods of match congestion.
“It was felt that his body needed a few more days to recover after he felt a pain in his groin during the warm up and we did not want to put him at increased risk of injury.”
Wolves are set to meet Liverpool for their gameweek 7 clash at Anfield on Saturday the 10th and sadly for Bruno Miguel Silva, Sasa Kalajdzic will not be part of his lineup for the match.
