Following a knee injury sustained in training on Tuesday, France striker Christopher Nkunku has been eliminated from the World Cup.
The RB Leipzig frontman needed assistance leaving the field after being struck during a challenge with Eduardo Camavinga during a 50-50 ball contest.
After tests revealed that Nkunku had sprained his left knee, it was later made clear that he would not be traveling to Qatar.
In order for the defending champions to call up a replacement, the French Football Federation forwarded Nkunku’s medical records to FIFA.
Wissam Ben Yedder, Moussa Diaby, Morgan Terrier, or Randal Kolo Muani are likely to take his place.
On Wednesday, the team and head coach Didier Deschamps are scheduled to fly to their base in Doha.
On November 22, Les Bleus take on Australia to start their World Cup Group D campaign. Following that, they play Denmark and Tunisia.
Only Nkunku’s France teammate Kylian Mbappe has managed more total goals and assists since the start of 2022 among players from Europe’s top five leagues, including the Premier League, LaLiga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and Serie A.
The 25-year-old has been involved in 48 goals overall this year (37 goals and 11 assists), with Mbappe leading the way with 57. (43 goals and 14 assists).
