From the moment she showed up with her long train, it was known that Faith Morey was going to keep the other housewives on their toes without even breaking a sweat, and it was vividly depicted in this episode.
But before we delve into the drama, let’s discuss a missing element of authenticity in this show.
The Real Housewives of Lagos is a lifestyle Reality TV show and Reality TV shows capture the lives, experiences, and behaviors of real people, often in an unscripted format. However, one notable aspect in the RHOLagos is the rarity of scenes showing the housewives in their natural, everyday state. we noticeably never get to see what the wives are like before getting all dolled up, and fashionably dressed.
It would make the show more real if these women were shown without these items. A vivid example was when Iyabo visited Chioma; she mentioned she was home that day but was shown all dressed up with full makeup and stylish hair. Even the Kardashians show their pre-glammed selves in their reality show.
Also, it seems the producers of the show have a casting oversight, or perhaps the show was not appropriately titled. The title of the Reality TV Show is The Real Housewives of Lagos, so why exactly is Chioma Ikokwu in the show, because she is neither married, divorced, widowed, nor even has a child. How is she a Housewife? This suggests a potential inconsistency in the casting.
Oh well! Back to Faith Morey, this episode opens with Iyabo Ojo inviting some of the Housewives for a mini-getaway celebrating her 25 years in the movie industry. She invites everyone except Laura, with whom she had a personal grudge concerning parties, and Faith Morey because she is not her friend.
Chioma goes ahead to invite the two wives for the getaway, but it turns into full-blown drama as Laura still does not show up and some housewives; Mariam and Iyabo decide to pick on Faith Morey unnecessarily, leading to bigger drama. It’s a wonder why the episode is titled ‘Can we be friends?’ as it has little relevance whatsoever to the plot of the episode.
Notably, Toyin’s changing dynamics are observed, while she initially enjoyed the drama going on around her and even stepped in to defend Faith Morey. Surprisingly, at a point, she steps out of the gathering when the drama becomes really heated. This raises questions about whether Toyin’s appetite for drama has diminished or if she’s just disinterested in this particular one.
Meanwhile, Tania is a total bore in the show, as she seems more like a supporting character instead of one of the wives. While it is not suggested that she jumps around looking for drama or brew a storm while quietly sipping wine, we can’t help but notice how she is caught between trying not to offend some wives and sucking up to some others. She actually has no depth or storyline yet in the show.
Despite the episode’s enchanting cinematography, good production, scenery, quality set design, and effects, this particular episode was not exciting to watch. As it just portrayed a bunch of grown women unnecessarily trying to bully another woman. The drama was petty and had no depth, but then Faith Morey did say that it would take ten strong women to take her down, and she has indeed shown that she meant every single word she said. Her unwavering spirit to withstand the drama pressure stands out.
