Things you should start doing during ASUU strike

ASUU Strike

The ASUU Strike is one of the most serious issues confronting Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.

Every Nigerian student and parent is familiar with this issue.

However, strikes in Nigeria, particularly the ASUU strike, can be highly unpredictable.

Strikes compel schools and institutions to close, professors and teachers to miss work, and students to stay at home.

Students and parents have little control over the strike. However, the federal government and other organizations do.

Meanwhile, for some students, the strike period might be a pleasant and productive time, while for others, it can be the worst moment.

Many students are unsure how long the strike will last. It’s not possible. That is why it is essential to make the most of your time as a student.

So, this article will be about 6 things you should do as a Nigerian student during the ASUU strike.

1. Learn A Digital Skill

Skills are now in high demand in this digital age. One of the best ways to invest in yourself is to learn new talents.

If you haven’t been taking your abilities seriously, now is the time to start. Meanwhile, strike periods are a good opportunity to start learning new skills.

You can begin by learning graphic design, website design, programming and coding, content writing, social media management, video creation and editing, and so on.

Some online courses and tools may teach you virtually any skill you choose. There are platforms like as Udemy, Coursera, Udacity, Skillshare, and others.

2. Attend Seminars, Events, And Read Personal Development Books

Personal growth is critical to your success as a student. It is one of your most valuable assets.

Many pupils do not take personal growth seriously because they have not been taught to do so.

The strike period is ideal for furthering your personal growth as a student.

Attend seminars, both online and in person, attend events, and study personal development literature.

3. Develop And Sharpen Your Communication Skills

Most students will take it seriously if they understand how important communication skills are in their lives.

Many Nigerian graduates are currently unemployed due to a lack of communication skills.

Effective communication is critical to the success and growth of any organization or enterprise.

A graduate with strong communication skills is a valuable addition to any firm, and people like this are quickly employed.

Communication skills are beneficial not just to businesses, but also to your daily activities in a variety of ways.

The strike period is an excellent opportunity for you to improve and hone your communication skills as a student.

4. Read Your School Notes

You might be falling behind in your schoolwork or courses at times.

Perhaps you are still confused about some of the issues covered in class by your professor. The strike phase is the ideal opportunity to reintroduce them.

Furthermore, if you are not falling behind, you can get ahead of your peers by reading and studying topics that have not been taught.

The fact that you are on strike does not mean that your academic activities should be put on hold. Use your time wisely.

5. Start A Business

Yes, you read that correctly. It is impossible to tell when the strike will finish.

If you already have a business idea and plan, the time you are on strike is an excellent opportunity to launch it.

How would you feel about earning some money as a student? Aren’t you happy? You don’t have to look up to your parents all of the time.

Meanwhile, if you don’t have a business to start right away, you can use that time to conduct research, conduct surveys, and conduct feasibility studies on the proposed business you want to start later.

6. Join A Good Circle/ club

You might not understand what I mean by “Join A Good Circle,” but bear with me while I explain.

Your environment, friends, exposure, the information you ingest, and so on are some of the variables that determine your existence as a person.

Every pupil or individual, no matter how small, has friends. Your buddies influence you in some manner, whether directly or indirectly, positively or adversely.

That is why it is critical to understand the type of friends you have or the group you are a part of since it molds your life.

Examine your friends and the people you hang out with; do they give value to your life? Are they assisting you in your development?

The strike period is an excellent time to leave a bad circle (if your current “circle” is not assisting you) and join a good one.
